Liverpool Development Tournament 01/10

An early Saturday morning in October. Collingwood Dock. Tentative autumn sunshine and a chill breeze blowing in off the Mersey. Liver birds cawing quietly in the background.

On Saturday 1st October, despite the weather being a few degrees lower than ideal, two Wildcats teams descended on Liverpool to take part in a friendly tournament hosted very kindly by FOA.

Down in the lower division, the C team donned our thermal rash vests and cags and went head to head with multiple FOA development teams with wins across the board which, arguably, made a nice change, even if the teams were made up entirely of 12 year olds.

The good news was that we ended up with a first place finish and a large box of sweets courtesy of Mike Moffitt. However, reflecting on the average age of our opponents, I doubt it will go down in Wildcats history as our most rewarding victory. But hey! It was good practice for all and we’ll absolutely take our wins where we can get them.

After an enjoyable day splashing about, we ended with a debrief, a well earned pint and some top notch grub in a pub in Newton-Le-Willows. Laughs were had and chips were demolished - the perfect end.

Overall, a lovely day at a friendly tournament reminding ourselves that playing polo doesn’t always have to be high stakes or overly competitive - simply fun. Good company, good practice and good vibes. 10/10.

I should also add that all the development teams played really well and gave us a good run for our money!
